How to play Mines: odds, multipliers and tips
· 5 min read
Mines is played on a board of 25 tiles. Before the round you choose how many mines to hide, from 1 to 24. Every tile you uncover without hitting a mine raises your multiplier, and you can cash out after any safe pick. Hit a mine and the bet is lost.
How the number of mines changes the odds
With 3 mines, 22 of the 25 tiles are safe, so your first pick is safe 88% of the time. With 10 mines only 15 tiles are safe, and the first pick is safe 60% of the time. Fewer safe tiles means a bigger multiplier for every pick.
| Mines | After 1 pick | After 3 picks | After 5 picks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.03x · 96% | 1.12x · 88% | 1.23x · 80% |
| 3 | 1.12x · 88% | 1.47x · 67% | 1.99x · 49.6% |
| 5 | 1.23x · 80% | 1.99x · 49.6% | 3.39x · 29.2% |
| 10 | 1.65x · 60% | 5.00x · 19.8% | 17.51x · 5.7% |
Each cell shows the multiplier and the chance of getting that far without a mine. The multiplier is always the fair payout for that chance minus the 1% house edge, which is why Mines has a 99% RTP whatever you choose.
Is there a Mines strategy?
The mines are placed before the round starts and every hidden tile is equally likely to be a mine, so no pattern of clicks is safer than another. What you control is the risk: how many mines, and how many picks before you cash out. The expected return is the same on every setting.
Tips
- Decide your cash out point before the round, for example after 3 picks, and stick to it.
- Use fewer mines for steady small wins, more mines for rare big ones.
- Use auto bet with a stop on loss to keep a session in budget.
- Check any round afterwards in your bet history.
